****ACCENT MODIFICATION GROUPS NOW AVAILABLE FOR INDIVIDUALS (Mar 2010)****

Voice Culture is now offering Accent Reduction (sometimes called Accent Modification) for individuals who wish to modify their accent as part of a group, rather than in an individual programme.

Speech Therapist, Alison Owen, of Voice Culture, pioneered Accent Reduction groups for larger companies in NZ and has been running these with great success within these companies.

Voice Culture is now offering the same program to individuals who wish to join with others and gain the added benefits of group interaction.

Accent Modification Groups have the following benefits

  • Groups are kept small and personal contact is high.

  • The cost is much lower than an individual programme
  • Individual programmes are planned for each participant

  • An individual workbook/manual and practice CD is provided
to ensure homework practice remains on track.

WIN A WISH - RADIO BREEZE (Jan 2010)

In July 2009 Voice Culture was contacted by The Breeze 93.4 FM, Win a Wish, to make a dream come true for Dylan's mother, Suzie, because Dylan could not talk.

In January the Radio Station made a follow up call to Suzie to see how Speech Language Therapy had benefitted Dylan. Click here to listen to her story...

THE LISTENING PROGRAM (Oct 2008)

Recently I trained in the The Listening Program, a home based auditory stimulation method using music.

The primary purpose of the programme is to bring the auditory system into balance. It trains or retrains the ear and brain to process sound without distortion. It offers benefits to people of all ages, those who are typically developing and those in need of auditory retraining and skill enhancement.

The idea of using music is that it is organised sound. The brain handles music and linguistic (language) information in a similar fashion. The Listening Program provides advanced auditory training to the ear and brain through systematic delivery of modified music.

The results of using The Listening Program are reported as being quite significant. Changes are commonly reported in the following areas:

  • attention and concentrationl
  • listening and auditory processing
  • speech and language
  • memory
  • communication
  • social skills
  • self esteem
  • relaxation
  • reading
  • sensory processing
  • self regualtion
  • balance and coordination
  • vocal performance and music ability
  • organisational and planning skills
  • creativity
  • spatial processing
